Tesco has confirmed that it has discontinued its Southern Fried Chicken instant noodles, a popular snack product that cost just 50p. The news has left many customers 'devastated', with some taking to social media to express their disappointment.
The noodles, which were sold both in-store and online, were dried noodles that required cooking in boiling water with a southern fried chicken seasoning. The packaging described the product as being 'packed with flavour'. However, fans began to notice the product was missing from shelves and the website, prompting speculation about its discontinuation.
One Reddit user wrote: 'These are my go to quick food and my local Tesco has none on the shelf and they've disappeared off of the website too. I'll be gutted if they've discontinued them.' Another user confirmed the product had been axed in their local store last month, leading the original poster to respond: 'That sucks. I really struggle to find noodles like this I enjoy, and these are the only ones I've found recently.'
Tesco has since confirmed that the Southern Fried Chicken instant noodles have been discontinued across its stores nationwide. The reason given is that the product has been replaced with another Chicken flavour option. Tesco's website now shows a small range of instant noodles under its own-label brand 'Hearty Food', including Chicken and Curry flavour noodles for 35p, as well as Chicken and Mushroom and Curry pot-noodle style options for 54p.
This is not the first time Tesco has discontinued a popular product recently. The supermarket also axed its own-brand tomato and basil soup from its chilled range, which was priced at £1.85 for a 600g tub. A Tesco spokesperson confirmed the news, stating that the soup range is adjusted throughout the year in line with demand.
