Mohamed Salah Injury Blow: Egypt Star Faces Scan After Iran Draw at World Cup
Mohamed Salah Injury: Egypt Star Faces Scan After Iran Game

Mohamed Salah was substituted in the 57th minute of Egypt's 1-1 draw with Iran at the World Cup after complaining of hamstring pain. The Liverpool forward, who will become a free agent on July 1, now faces an anxious wait as he is set to undergo medical scans.

Egypt's Injury Concerns

The Egyptian Football Association issued an alarming update via X after the match. Technical director Hossam Hassan confirmed that Salah felt pain in his hamstring, leading to his withdrawal. Additionally, left-back Ahmed Fotouh also experienced hamstring discomfort, while Mohamed Abdelmonem suffered an ankle bruise.

Hassan stated: "Mohamed Salah, the team captain, complained of pain in his hamstring during the Iran match, which led to his withdrawal from the game in the second half." He added that all three players are scheduled for X-rays and medical examinations under team doctor Mohamed Aboul Ela to determine their recovery program.

World Cup Performance

Salah has been instrumental for Egypt at this summer's World Cup, scoring his 68th international goal in a 3-1 victory against New Zealand. He has netted two further goals in the tournament, helping Egypt reach the knockout stages for the first time. However, serious doubts now surround his availability for the clash against Australia next Friday.

Club Future Speculation

The 34-year-old's club future also remains uncertain as he prepares to leave Liverpool after nine years. His agent, Ramy Abbas, has dismissed claims that Salah has already chosen his next destination, amid links to Turkish clubs. Abbas wrote on X: "Mohamed is doing perfectly fine and neither he nor I prefer to discuss sensitive future plans with people not involved in them."

These remarks follow Turkish businessman Torunogullari's assertion that Salah was keen to move to Fenerbahce. Speaking to Fotospor, Torunogullari said: "He was very keen on coming to Turkey. The meetings we had were extremely positive. We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary."

Salah leaves Liverpool as one of the club's finest-ever players, having won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups since joining in June 2017.
