Swansea café Hoogah pleads for support amid plumbing costs

Hoogah, a popular café on Brynymor Road in Brynmill, Swansea, has appealed to customers to keep supporting the business after the cost of significant plumbing works posed a “genuine threat” to its future.

The café, known for coffee, lunch, and brunch since it opened in 2017, said it has faced costly plumbing repairs since mid-August. The business described the period as an “exceptionally tough time” for hospitality businesses and asked anyone planning a social evening out to “please consider us.”

Plumbing issues since mid-August

In a statement, Hoogah said: “Some of you know we’ve been dealing with plumbing issues since mid-August. After endless back and forth and multiple attempted fixes we’ve finally discovered the system needs significant works.”

The statement added: “It’s been an incredibly stressful situation that has already cost us thousands in repairs and lost earnings. It’s an exceptionally tough time for hospitality businesses as it is, and a setback like this is a genuine threat to us.”

Appeal for community support

Offering advice on how customers can help, the café said: “We don’t often ask for help, and we definitely aren’t asking for charity – we know things are tight for everyone right now. But when times get tough, you have to lean on your community.”

“When we’re back fully firing, we’re in desperate need of your business. Going for a coffee and brunch? Please consider us. Grabbing a pint and catching up with mates? Please consider us.”

“Want to support but can't make it down? We’ve just launched digital gift cards on our website. Grabbing one now helps us so much right when we need it most. We’ll do what we always do – put our heads down and work through it. But this time, we really need your support.”

Second Swansea business plea

This marks the second time in recent weeks a Swansea business has asked customers for support. Jessica Williams, who runs Spuddy Lovely in Gorseinon, previously spoke about her own struggles running her jacket potato shop due to a fall in trade.
