Stockport's 50p school uniform sale is returning to Merseyway Shopping Centre for eight days, offering parents a chance to buy good quality uniforms for just 50p per item.
The pop-up shop opens on Friday, August 14 and runs until Friday, August 21. All items, including branded uniforms for many local schools, have been donated by families to give them a second life and help parents save money.
Fifth year of the initiative
Now in its fifth year, the scheme has seen thousands of items donated and sold to the local community, keeping wearable uniforms out of landfill. All proceeds from this year's shop will support Emmie's Kitchen, a charity that provides meals for parents and carers staying at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Donations have been dropped off at the shopping centre over the last few weeks. Supplies have also come via the Reloved Uniform 4 All community organisation, which has two pop-ups at Reddish and Brinnington Life Leisure gyms, open throughout summer.
What's on sale
Every item costs 50p, including polo shirts, jumpers, cardigans, blazers and more. The scheme accepts items suitable for Stockport-based schools, but families with children outside Stockport will also find suitable items. All donations must be clean and in wearable condition; damaged or dirty items will not be accepted.
Victoria Nichol, centre manager at Merseyway, said: "It's incredible to see how this initiative has grown over the last five years. What started as a simple idea has become something the whole community gets behind, with families returning year after year to donate uniforms, shop sustainably and support local charities. It's now become a real back-to-school tradition for Stockport, and we'd love to see even more people get involved this summer."
How to donate
Families can still donate preloved uniform by taking it to any Stockport Library, or the Merseyway shop will accept donations for the first few days. Nichol added: "School uniforms are only worn for a short time before children outgrow them, so if your child's is still in great condition, why not pass them on? Every donated blazer, jumper, PE kit or pair of shoes could make a real difference to another local family, while also helping reduce clothing waste. It's a small gesture that has a huge impact."
Items welcomed include shirts and polo shirts, trousers, skirts, dresses and pinafores, jumpers and cardigans, blazers, PE kits, school shoes and school bags.
