Sainsbury's Local has opened at Manchester Airport's Terminal 3, marking the first time a major UK supermarket has operated at the airport. The store, located in the arrivals area, creates 24 jobs and offers a curated selection of convenience products, including meal deals, food-on-the-go, and home essentials.
Collection Service for Argos and Habitat
The new store also allows customers to order online from Sainsbury's partners Argos and Habitat for collection, providing access to thousands of products. This service enables passengers to order items while on holiday and collect them upon arrival, or order essentials for their trip and pick them up before checking in.
Richard Jackson, retail director at Manchester Airport, said: "It's wonderful to see such an iconic name joining the line-up of places to eat, drink and shop in Terminal 3. We know when passengers arrive back into the country after a trip abroad, they value the convenience of being able to pick up the essentials they need to restock their fridges or kitchen cupboards right here."
Third UK Airport Store
Manchester becomes the third UK airport to host a Sainsbury's store, following Edinburgh Airport, which opened its first airport store in 2024, and London Luton. David Pilbeam, Sainsbury's Director of Acquisitions, Capital Projects and Engineering, said: "We're delighted to have opened our brand-new Sainsbury's Local in Manchester Airport today, where we're excited to play a key role in the ongoing regeneration of Terminal 3."
Pilbeam added: "We're passionate about bringing more delicious Sainsbury's food to more customers in more locations throughout the UK. Part of this includes our continued expansion into key transport hubs like UK train stations and, more recently, airports."
Terminal 3 Revamp
Terminal 3 is undergoing a multi-million pound revamp, including a new sports bar with over 400 seats that opened earlier this year in the departure lounge, and an Italian eatery, Terracotta, set to follow later this year. The terminal has increased in size following the closure of Terminal 1, with some of that terminal's floorspace annexed into T3.
Other Airport Developments
At Terminal 2, Manchester Airport announced last month that its first-ever JD Wetherspoon pub will open in September, as part of the airport's decade-long £1.3 billion transformation plan. The pub, named The Belle Vue, will be located in the Terminal 2 departures lounge with over 300 covers across 338 square metres.
Additionally, the Executive by Escape Lounge, a premium lounge with the UK's first airport lounge carvery, has opened at Terminal 2. The lounge features live cooking, made-to-order dishes, barista coffee, premium drinks, and Manchester-inspired spaces.
