Michael Carrick's Manchester United future is in doubt after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth left the club 16th in the Premier League. Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson delivered United a third loss in four matches and extended their winless run to eight fixtures across all competitions.
Pressure mounts on Carrick
United have claimed victory in just two of their 12 matches this season, securing seven points from a potential 24. They have not won in the top flight since defeating Ipswich in August and now sit one point above the relegation zone.
Speaking after the match, Carrick appeared disheartened and was uncertain whether he would be in the dugout for United's trip to Chelsea next Saturday. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both urged United to dismiss Carrick after the latest defeat.
Ratcliffe accelerates sack plan
Manchester United's board are now expected to expedite the process of appointing a new head coach, with club insiders suggesting Carrick will be dismissed, according to Sky Sports.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United chiefs believe a change is necessary to transform the club's fortunes, with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe the frontrunners. The verdict on who will succeed Carrick is set to rest with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, who will present a recommendation to co-owner Ratcliffe.
Giggs attacks Neville
Rhodri Giggs, the brother of Manchester United icon Ryan, has launched an X-rated assault on Gary Neville amid the club's deepening crisis. Following the defeat against Bournemouth, Rhodri, 49, turned his fury towards Neville and United's ownership, accusing the former England defender of failing to hold Sir Jim Ratcliffe to account.
In a post on X, he wrote: "Gary Neville you're an absolute w****r. Prime Pep couldn't get a tune out of this lot. Call your mate Jim [Ratcliffe] out who got us into this mess further. The owners are parasites and don't have a clue."
