Lloyds Bank reveals October deadline for Halifax customer account switch
Lloyds Bank October deadline for Halifax account switch

Lloyds Bank has clarified the details of its plan to move Halifax customers onto its own digital platform, following a customer complaint on social media. The account holder said they had "never been more sad" about being "forced to move" from Halifax to Lloyds Bank, describing it as an "end of an era".

Halifax customers are gradually being transferred to the Lloyds Bank brand, and the bank has now explained exactly how the change will work.

Digital change only

In response to the customer, Lloyds Bank said: "The change only affects how you access your account digitally." The bank added: "Your account itself remains with Halifax, and your account number, sort code, debit card, PIN, direct debits and standing orders all stay the same."

Halifax and Lloyds Bank are both part of Lloyds Banking Group, alongside Bank of Scotland. Guidance on the Halifax website also assures customers making the switch that "everything about how your accounts work stays the same".

Details staying the same

The following elements will remain unchanged for customer accounts: account numbers, sort codes, policy numbers, roll numbers, card details, PINs, standing orders, direct debits, payments, and repayments.

Halifax customers have been receiving invitations through the app and online banking to sign up for the Lloyds Bank version.

October deadline

Money Saving Expert warned in a recent update: "Halifax is about to shut its online banking, so if you're a customer, you need to act now. The brand will soon be swallowed up by Lloyds Banking Group. The Halifax app and online banking will be shut down completely from October 31. That means you'll need to switch over to the Lloyds Bank app before November."

For customers who already have a Lloyds app or online banking, there is nothing they need to do. Halifax guidance explains: "If you have Lloyds login details from a business banking account, these will now also work with the Lloyds personal app and online banking, and your business accounts will stay separate. If you don't have the Lloyds app yet, you can download it and start using it whenever you're ready."
