Rockstar Games reportedly approached Daft Punk with an 'unlimited budget' to reunite for the GTA 6 soundtrack, but the electronic music duo declined the offer, according to a prominent music industry leaker.
The news comes after Rockstar announced that Justice, a French electronic duo, have created an original score for the game, led by the track 'Flower In A Hurricane'. However, it appears they were not the studio's first choice.
Rockstar's Reported Pitch to Daft Punk
Music industry leaker Has It Leaked wrote on X: 'Daft Punk’s management (yes, still exists) were pitched ‘a final comeback’ of the duo for the GTA 6 soundtrack with what was ‘essentially an unlimited budget’. Justice were Rockstar’s second choice.'
Daft Punk, known for hits like 'One More Time', 'Digital Love', and 'Get Lucky', split in 2021. The duo have previous ties to video games, having appeared as playable characters in DJ Hero and having songs featured in Beat Saber. Additionally, 'Music Sounds Better With You' by Stardust, which features Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter, was included in GTA 5.
Justice as the Chosen Alternative
Justice, while not as globally recognised as Daft Punk, are considered an exciting second option. The duo are heavily influenced by Daft Punk, and their label, Ed Banger Records, is managed by Pedro Winter, a former Daft Punk manager. They are best known for the songs 'D.A.N.C.E.' and 'Genesis'.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Numbers
Regardless of the soundtrack choice, GTA 6 is expected to make a significant impact. According to analytics firm Sensor Tower (via GamesIndustry.biz), the game has been pre-ordered 6.08 million times as of October 13, 2026, equating to an estimated revenue of $594 million (£445 million). Of those pre-orders, 74% are on PlayStation 5 and 26% are on Xbox Series X/S.
GTA 6's pre-orders are reportedly 148% ahead of 2022's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which earned $800 million in its opening weekend. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
