Scots could be reaching for extra layers this weekend as temperatures dip into single figures, with parts of the country facing a particularly chilly start to October. According to Netweather's latest forecast for Scotland, temperatures are expected to hover around 8C to 11C for much of Saturday, October 10, before falling as the evening progresses.
Into Sunday, temperatures are forecast to drop further, with lows of around 5C during the early hours before gradually climbing through the morning. The forecast also points to periods of cloud and rain over the weekend, adding to the distinctly autumnal feel.
ProBreeze mini heater features
With the colder weather setting in, shoppers looking to “take the chill off without heating the whole house” could turn to ProBreeze’s ThermaCube Mini 1500W Ceramic Fan Heater for £54.99. The heater uses ceramic technology to provide fast, targeted warmth and offers four operating modes – High Heat, Low Heat, Fan Only and ECO. Its digital thermostat can be set anywhere between 15 °C and 35 °C in one-degree increments, while ECO Mode automatically adjusts the heat output to help maintain the selected room temperature.
A 60-degree oscillation function distributes warm air around the room rather than directing it towards one spot, and the lightweight, compact design makes it easier to move the heater between rooms as needed. For added peace of mind, it features overheat protection, a tip-over switch, flame-retardant materials and an enhanced safety plug. The heater is suitable for medium rooms, uses less energy than other models and has a small 26cm compact footprint.
Alternative heaters for keeping warm
An alternative option is the Duux ThreeSixty Smart Ceramic Fan Heater in grey for £49.99 at Argos, which is its lowest price. It is suitable for room sizes up to 30m2, and it offers three heat settings, as well as temperatures between 22 and 30 degrees.
Another is the Daewoo 2000w Mini Upright Flat Fan Heater for £30 from Dunelm. This one is ideal for warming up smaller spaces, including home offices, bedrooms or even nurseries. It is portable and comes with a built-in handle and an easy-to-use temperature dial.
Customer reviews and potential drawbacks
However, the ThermaCube Mini Ceramic Fan Heater has racked up high ratings on ProBreeze. One person said: “I've been using this in my home office mainly to take the chill off without putting the heating on for the whole house. It is smaller than I expected and sits neatly beside my desk without taking up much room. Warm air starts coming through quickly and the high setting has enough output to easily heat my office.
"I wasn't expecting the oscillation to make much difference but it does. Instead of getting a constant blast of hot air on one leg while I work it spreads the warmth around a much wider area... For a home office bedroom or smaller room where you want quick local heat this is a very handy little heater.”
Another added as part of a longer review: "Heats up fast and the warm air lingers. Perfect for the lounge in winter. Easy to store away thanks to its small size.”
A third added as part of a longer review: “It's a small little unit perfect for desks or bedside tables. It has multiple settings and the heat can be adjusted easily either on the controller or on top of the unit. The heater actually looks very sleek and not too bulky like older space heaters.”
Two potential negatives of the heater are its noticeable operating noise and its limited scope as a spot-heating device. Because it relies on an active fan mechanism operating at around 40.8 dB, it may be too loud for light sleepers or those seeking a completely silent environment.
Additionally, while its 1500W ceramic element is efficient for taking the chill off small offices or individual desks, it lacks the overall heating capacity to comfortably warm up larger, open-plan rooms on its own.
