Italian restaurant chain Prezzo has announced the return of its hugely popular Blue Monday promotion, offering customers selected main courses for just 99p for one day only this month.
How to Claim the 99p Deal
The special Blue Monday menu will be available exclusively on Monday, January 19. To qualify, diners must first download the Prezzo app to obtain a unique discount code. A table must be pre-booked, and each guest is required to purchase a drink from the menu, excluding tea and coffee.
The offer is limited to a maximum of 12 people per bill and cannot be used in conjunction with any other Prezzo promotions. With 96 restaurants across the UK participating, tables are expected to be in high demand.
What's on the Blue Monday Menu?
The deal features a range of classic Italian dishes at three different price points. A selection of seven mains will be available for the headline price of just 99p each.
The 99p dishes include:
- Arrabbiata
- Spaghetti Bolognese
- Spaghetti Carbonara
- Pepperoni Pizza
- The Veggie One Pizza
- Margherita Pizza
- Plant-based Spaghetti Bolognese
Three further dishes – the Double Pepperoni Pizza, Marry Me Chicken Pasta, and Ham and Mushroom Pizza – will be priced at £2.99 each.
A premium selection, including The Prezzo Burger, The Spicy One Pizza, and Spaghetti With King Prawns, will be available for £5 each.
Blue Monday: A Marketing Phenomenon
Blue Monday, which falls on the third Monday of January, is a concept coined to represent the year's most depressing day, citing factors like cold weather, post-Christmas debt, and broken New Year's resolutions. While its scientific basis is debated, it has become a firm fixture in the retail and hospitality calendar for launching promotional campaigns.
In a post on Instagram, Prezzo declared: "BLUE MONDAY IS BACK and no, this is not a drill. On 19th January only, enjoy selected pasta and pizza at Prezzo Italian for just 99p. Because the 'worst day of the year' deserves seriously good food."
Industry Context: Jamie's Italian Relaunch
The announcement comes alongside news that celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is set to relaunch his Jamie’s Italian restaurant chain in the UK next spring, six years after it collapsed into administration. The new venue will open in London’s Leicester Square as part of a partnership with the same restaurant group that owns Prezzo.
Jamie’s Italian, first launched in Oxford in 2008, once operated around 40 UK sites before its closure in 2019 led to significant job losses. The brand has continued to trade overseas with over 30 restaurants in 25 countries.
