A taste test comparing supermarket strawberry jams has crowned M&S as the winner, outperforming popular brand Hartley's. The test, conducted by a journalist, evaluated jams from Lidl, Aldi, Asda, M&S, and Hartley's based on flavour, texture, and overall quality.
M&S jam was praised for its ideal consistency, ease of spreading, and homemade feel, making it a clear winner. Aldi came second, offering a rich red colour, pleasant sweet smell, and balanced flavour without being overly sweet or tangy. Hartley's, despite its sweet taste, was let down by a thick, jelly-like texture.
Lidl's jam ranked last, lacking both flavour and aroma, with a pale colour. Asda's jam was noted for its strong flavour and colour but deemed too dense. The test highlighted that own-brand options like Aldi and M&S can match or exceed branded alternatives in both taste and value.
