Morrisons is trialling a major overhaul of its loyalty programme, bringing back a points-based system similar to its former Morrisons More card. The supermarket scrapped the original scheme in May 2021, replacing it with the cardless My Morrisons app, which offers personalised discounts instead of points.
From tomorrow, the new version will be tested in over 20 stores in the North East, following a successful internal trial with staff. A nationwide rollout is expected in early summer. The revived scheme will allow customers to earn points and redeem 'More Card Fivers'—worth £5 once 5,000 points are accumulated.
Shoppers will also earn five points per litre of fuel purchased at Morrisons forecourts. The supermarket confirmed the proposed name is Morrisons More once again. A spokesperson said: 'We are continuing to invest in our loyalty scheme to make sure it offers our customers great value and builds on the popularity of My Morrisons Exclusives.'
The move comes amid heightened competition in the grocery sector, with Sainsbury's and Co-op introducing member-only pricing similar to Tesco's Clubcard Prices. Morrisons has not yet confirmed whether a physical card will be reintroduced; currently, new members use the app only.
