Little Debbie Expands Donut Line with Chocolate Flavour After Fan Demand
Iconic sweets brand Little Debbie has officially unveiled a new chocolate flavour of its beloved Big Pack Old Fashioned Donuts, capitalising on the remarkable success of the original product launched just last year. The snack, which first hit shelves in June 2025, rapidly became a nationwide favourite, with the brand reporting exceptional retail performance and frequent sell-outs as consumers embraced its nostalgic texture combined with modern convenience.
Brand Manager Highlights Consumer Response
In a Tuesday press release, Little Debbie Brand manager Scott Brownlow emphasised the enthusiastic reception to the original donut. "We saw an incredible response to the Old Fashioned Donut we introduced last year," Brownlow stated. "We're doubling down on what works and giving both loyalists and new fans an irresistible reason to head back to the store." The new Chocolate Old Fashioned Donuts retain the signature characteristics of the original, featuring golden-brown ridges, a moist and crumbly texture, and a sweet glaze, but now infused with a rich chocolate flavour.
Available in Two Convenient Formats
The chocolate donuts are being launched in two distinct on-the-go packaging options to cater to different consumer needs:
- The Big Pack Carton containing six Chocolate Old Fashioned Donuts.
- The Single-Serve Offering featuring a three-ounce individually wrapped donut.
These products are now available for purchase through various online retailers and at grocery stores across the country, ensuring widespread accessibility for fans.
Part of a Broader Innovation Strategy
This launch represents just one element of Little Debbie's ongoing product innovation efforts this year. Earlier this month, the brand, which is produced by McKee Foods, introduced Soft Baked Cookies in two individually wrapped flavours: Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter. Chuck Clevenger, associate brand manager at McKee Foods, commented on this expansion, noting, "Little Debbie has long been known for creme-filled cookies. Now we are offering new traditional Soft Baked Cookies that deliver the soft, satisfying texture today's consumers want."
Since its inception in 1960, Little Debbie has built a strong reputation for its individually wrapped snacks, including classics such as:
- Oatmeal Creme Pies
- Honey Buns
- Cosmic Brownies
- Swiss Rolls
- Zebra Cakes
- Nutty Buddy Bars
The introduction of the Chocolate Old Fashioned Donut continues this legacy while responding directly to consumer trends and demand.
Parallel Developments in the Snack Aisle
In related news, Walmart's private-label line, Great Value, is undergoing a significant packaging redesign aimed at modernising its appearance both in stores and online. This overhaul will affect nearly 10,000 food and household products, with a gradual rollout planned over the next two years. The initial changes will be visible on salty snack products, as announced by the company this week.
The redesign focuses on enhancing clarity and visual appeal, with updates to make key details such as protein content, nutrition facts, and dietary labels like gluten-free more immediately accessible. Walmart is shifting towards brighter colour tones and prominent food imagery, moving away from the plainer, minimalist aesthetic that has historically defined the Great Value brand.
