Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI Passengers Issued £125 Luggage Fee Alert
Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI Luggage Fee Warning

Millions of UK travellers flying with Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, and TUI are being warned about potential luggage fees of up to £125 as the peak summer season approaches. With more Brits opting for short-haul trips and budget airline holidays in 2026, efficient packing has become crucial to avoid extra costs.

Rising Luggage Charges

Many passengers are caught out by oversized cabin bags or overweight suitcases, facing charges of up to £60 at the gate or £65 for exceeding hold luggage limits, which can total £125. In response, travellers are seeking smarter ways to maximise space while complying with airline restrictions.

Expert Packing Advice

Nick Gaskin, Sales and Marketing Director at IT Luggage, shares practical tips to help travellers pack more efficiently. "Packing well isn't about fitting more in; it's about travelling smarter," he says.

As hand-luggage-only travel becomes more common, Gaskin recommends creating a micro essentials kit. "Treat your cabin bag as a safety net. Include essentials like underwear, key toiletries (remembering liquid limits), medication, and a charger. That way, you're covered for delays or lost luggage without relying on airport shops."

He also suggests packing one complete spare outfit using crease-resistant fabrics to stay comfortable and presentable if plans change.

Boarding Pass Backup

"Technology fails more often than people expect," Gaskin warns. Keeping a screenshot or printed boarding pass avoids stress if airport Wi-Fi or apps stop working.

Keep in-flight items within reach by storing headphones, snacks, and lip balm in a small pouch under the seat.

Checked Baggage Tips

For longer trips, organisation is key. "Pack by outfit, not by item," Gaskin advises. Grouping complete outfits together prevents packing combinations that don't work.

Use packing cubes to manage weight: "Weigh each cube as you pack it. It's much easier to adjust before everything goes in the suitcase than deal with excess baggage at the airport."

Position shoes heel-to-toe around the suitcase edges and fill them with socks or smaller items to maximise space. Separate clean and worn clothes with a lightweight laundry bag to maintain freshness.

Combine rolling and folding: "Rolling softer items like T-shirts saves space, while structured garments such as jackets should be folded to reduce creasing."

Finally, photograph your packed suitcase: "Taking a quick photo before you travel can support insurance claims if luggage is lost and acts as a reminder of what you've packed."
