It appears the humble Greggs sausage roll has achieved a new level of stardom, winning over Hollywood A-listers filming in the UK. Actress Rebel Wilson has revealed that she and her co-star Kiefer Sutherland developed a particular passion for the £1.25 puff pastry-wrapped treats while shooting their new Christmas movie.
A-List Approval for British High Street Staple
Speaking on ITV's This Morning with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Wilson enthusiastically praised the bakery chain. 'The most exquisite taste of Greggs, their sausage rolls in particular,' she declared. The admiration was mutual, with Wilson noting that Kiefer is obsessed with them. This shared love for the budget-friendly snack was so strong that it influenced the catering on the set of their film, Tinsel Town.
The movie, filmed in locations including Leeds and Harrogate, features Sutherland as a washed-up Hollywood action star tricked into starring in a UK pantomime. Despite having access to more luxurious dining options, the stars' preference was clear. Wilson explained that when the catering tried to implement a 'meatless Wednesday', Sutherland intervened, demanding, 'No, no, let's get a Greggs van in.'
Greggs Van Becomes a Film Set Hit
The decision to bring in a dedicated Greggs van was a resounding success. Wilson confirmed that the entire crew loved the initiative. As a further token of appreciation, both lead actors were gifted £50 Greggs vouchers. Amused by the value, Wilson added that she still hadn't managed to use up her voucher because 'the price is so good.'
During her television appearance, her enthusiasm was rewarded with a gold hamper filled with Greggs goodies from the hosts. To this, Wilson responded with an endorsement, urging viewers, 'If people don’t know about the quality that is Greggs just get into it like me and Kiefer did.'
Balancing Indulgence and Health
Despite her proclaimed love for the pastry treats, Wilson also discussed her ongoing focus on health and wellness. She revealed that earlier this year, she decided to shape up after overindulging in chocolate during the Easter period. The star, who previously lost over 36kg (around 80lbs) in 2021, has since shed more weight by changing her eating habits.
She admitted on Instagram that her 'first few days were a bit rough giving up chocolate and ice cream', but the effort paid off. This health kick resulted in an additional weight loss of 1kg (2.2 pounds), which she attributed to cutting out the excessive Easter eggs. Wilson has previously been open about using weight loss aids like Ozempic to help manage her appetite for sweets, acknowledging their role in her fitness journey.
While she enjoys the occasional Greggs sausage roll, it seems the actor is successfully finding a balance, embracing British delicacies without derailing her health goals.
