Dunkin’ Donuts Launches Protein Milk to Rival Starbucks' Menu
Dunkin’ Donuts Takes on Starbucks with Protein Drinks

The coffee shop wars have entered a new, protein-packed phase. Dunkin’ Donuts has launched a new Protein Milk, a direct challenge to rival Starbucks, which introduced its own line of protein-enhanced drinks months earlier.

Dunkin’ Joins the Protein Craze

From Wednesday 7 January 2026, customers at Dunkin’ can add the new Protein Milk to any beverage. The chain says it offers a simple way to add 15 grams of protein to a medium-sized drink. Dunkin’ promises the milk delivers a creamy, familiar taste, avoiding the chalky texture or aftertaste often associated with protein supplements.

Jill Nelson, Dunkin’s chief marketing officer, stated the move was about giving guests more flexibility. "Protein Milk tastes great across coffee, lattes and refreshers without changing the flavours guests already love," she said.

A Star-Studded Launch Campaign

To promote the launch, Dunkin’ partnered with rapper Megan Thee Stallion. In a new advert titled "Dunk N’ Pump," she appears as her alter ego "Pro-Tina," leading a workout and sipping a protein drink. The campaign also features a song she created for the brand.

The new menu includes several drinks featuring the Protein Milk:

  • Megan’s Mango Protein Refresher
  • Strawberry Protein Refresher
  • Caramel Chocolate Iced Protein Latte
  • Almond Iced Protein Matcha Latte
  • Iced Protein Latte with Sugar-Free Vanilla

Starbucks Set the Protein Benchmark

This strategic move by Dunkin’ follows Starbucks' own protein menu launch in September. The Seattle-based giant rolled out Protein Lattes and Cold Foam Drinks, offering significantly higher protein counts in some beverages.

Starbucks' offerings include:

  • Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Matcha and Latte (36g protein each in a medium)
  • Caramel or Vanilla Protein Latte (27g protein each in a medium)

Customers can also boost regular iced coffee with Starbucks Protein Cold Foam (adding 15g protein) or Protein-Boosted Milk (adding 12-16g protein). Both are made with whey protein powder and 2% milk.

This head-to-head competition highlights the growing consumer demand for functional, protein-rich options in the fast-paced coffee and refreshment sector. Both chains are betting that adding a health-conscious twist to indulgent drinks will win over customers looking for a convenient nutritional boost.
