Beloved British fashion retailer Cricket is set to close its Liverpool store in the Metquarter shopping centre in March 2026, after 35 years of trading. Signs reading 'store closing all stock must go' have appeared in the windows, and an employee confirmed the closure to the Liverpool Echo.
The store, which was taken over by Frasers Group in 2023, will cease trading in March 2026. A notice in the window advises customers to visit the Flannels website for future purchases. It remains unclear whether the brand will continue online or relocate.
Cricket was founded by Justine Mills in 1991 as a menswear boutique in Cavern Walks on Mathew Street, before shifting to high-end women's fashion in the late 1990s. It was one of the first independent stores to stock Christian Louboutin shoes and accessories, and in 2012 was chosen to showcase Louboutin's 20th anniversary collection alongside Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
The store has attracted a celebrity following, with Coleen Rooney, Alex Gerrard, Nicola Carragher and Sheree Murphy attending its 2008 fashion show. In 2019, Cricket moved to a larger unit in the Metquarter, and became known for long queues during its Boxing Day sales.
The Metquarter also houses shops such as Carvela, Say It With and Gypsabella, as well as Everyman Cinema and food traders. Frasers Group declined to comment on the closure.
