Costa Coffee to open third Newcastle branch in former Starbucks site
Costa to open third Newcastle branch in former Starbucks site

Costa Coffee is set to open a third branch inside Newcastle's Eldon Square shopping centre, taking over the premises formerly occupied by rival chain Starbucks. The new store will be located at the top of the escalators near the Clayton Street entrance, just along from the large Next store that opened last year.

The expansion reflects Costa's strong presence in the city centre, where it already operates two branches: one on the upper level opposite Millie's Cookies and another next to Eldon Square Bus Station, popular with commuters. The brand, founded by brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa in 1907, opened its first shop in London a decade later and expanded across the UK and overseas, including Dubai, around the turn of the millennium.

New Jobs and Store Design

The new store represents a further investment by Costa Coffee in Newcastle, creating 15 new jobs and becoming the first location in the city centre to feature the company's latest store design. Opening ahead of the festive season, customers will be able to enjoy Costa's Christmas menu, including the new Golden Hazel Latte with Ferrero Rocher, alongside seasonal food, gifts and returning festive favourites.

Helen Cowie, Centre Director at Eldon Square, said: “The arrival of Costa Coffee’s third store in Eldon Square really reflects the popularity of the brand among our visitors. We expect the newest store to be another favourite and look forward to seeing people enjoying everything it has to offer.”

Part of Growing Food and Drink Line-up

The opening adds to Eldon Square's existing food and drink destinations, including The Alchemist, Chaophraya, Smashburger and Dave's Hot Chicken, offering visitors more choice when shopping or socialising in Newcastle. Alessio Soave, Area Manager for Costa Coffee Newcastle & Gateshead, added: "We're delighted to be opening our new Costa Coffee store at Eldon Square. The continued support from customers across our existing locations has made this an exciting next step for Costa Coffee in Newcastle, and we're looking forward to welcoming shoppers, workers and visitors through our doors when we open in November."
