Co-op Unveils Major Online Enhancement for Loyalty Members

In a significant development for its customer base, the Co-op supermarket chain has announced a substantial expansion of its loyalty programme. The retailer has confirmed that its personalised offers, previously exclusive to in-store purchases, are now accessible for online shopping through its official website.

Substantial Annual Savings for Shoppers

According to Co-op, members who utilise these tailored discounts could save more than £80 throughout the year. The personalised offers system provides reductions on items that customers regularly purchase, enhancing the value proposition for loyal shoppers.

Important limitations apply: these offers are valid only on the Co-op's own online platform, shop.coop. They cannot be redeemed when ordering through third-party delivery applications such as Deliveroo or Just Eat.

Building on Previous Growth

This expansion follows a major enhancement to the programme last year, when Co-op increased the number of available personalised offers by 67%. This boost brought the total number of distinct offers to over 700, featuring popular brands including Huel, Pop Chips, Actimel, Pilgrims Choice, and Vimto.

Rachel Halter, Customer Director at Co-op, emphasised the strategic importance of this move. "Our data reveals that an impressive 88% of our online shoppers are Co-op members," she stated. "Introducing this popular weekly member benefit online aligns with our commitment to consistently deliver value to those who own our business."

Part of Broader Membership Strategy

The initiative supports Co-op's ambitious goal to grow its membership base to eight million by 2030. Currently, the cooperative boasts approximately seven million members, with a nominal £1 fee to join.

"The evolution of our personalised offers is another way for us to showcase one of the many reasons to join our Co-op," Halter added. She highlighted additional member benefits, including priority access to presale tickets for events at Co-op Live.

Recent Developments and Future Plans

In related news, Co-op has recently extended member price savings to customers using Just Eat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and its own online shop. The retailer is also actively expanding its physical presence, with 18 new or upgraded stores scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026.

The first new Co-op store of the year has already launched in the Willowbrook Park development in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Several existing locations, including a convenience store in Eastern Green, Coventry, and a franchise-operated site in Ealing, London, are set to reopen following refurbishments.

Significant Apprenticeship Investment

Beyond retail operations, Co-op has unveiled plans to create thousands of new apprenticeships in the coming years. Through a £70 million commitment via its Levy Share service, the company aims to facilitate 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.

This scheme allows levy-paying employers to transfer unused apprenticeship funds to businesses, charities, and community organisations. Since its inception four years ago, it has supported over 3,800 apprenticeships, with two-thirds located in the most deprived communities and a third within the care sector.
