In a welcome early Christmas present for British households, a festive price war has broken out on turkeys across UK supermarkets. Shoppers can now bag their centrepiece bird for less than last year, despite the ongoing cost of living pressures.
Major retailers including Aldi, Lidl, Asda, and Iceland have all announced significant price cuts on both frozen and fresh turkeys, making this year's Christmas dinner more affordable than many had anticipated.
Where to Find the Best Turkey Deals
Aldi is leading the charge with its frozen turkeys now up to 11% cheaper than in 2023. The budget supermarket's medium frozen turkey crown is priced at just £50.29, a substantial saving for families.
Not to be outdone, Lidl has priced its whole frozen turkeys from an astonishingly low £5.49 per kg, undercutting last year's prices and setting a competitive benchmark for the market.
Fresh Isn't Left Out
The price reductions aren't limited to frozen options. Asda has made impressive cuts to its fresh turkey range, with a medium fresh turkey now £18—a significant drop that brings fresh options within reach for more budgets.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, commented: "We know how important it is to help our customers celebrate Christmas without breaking the bank. That's why we're offering our highest quality turkeys at even lower prices than last year."
Broader Festive Savings
The turkey price cuts are part of a wider trend of supermarket investment in keeping Christmas costs down. Many retailers have price-matched or reduced numerous festive lines, from pigs in blankets to Christmas puddings, ensuring the entire holiday meal remains affordable.
This competitive pricing comes as a relief to families across the UK, proving that Christmas 2024 might be both merry and budget-friendly after all.
