In a recent taste test conducted by the Daily Express, Asda's own-brand cornflakes emerged as the clear winner over Aldi's version, offering a superior balance of flavour and texture at just £1.15 for a 500g box. This is £1.34 cheaper than Kellogg's, which sells for £2.49 for 450g at Tesco.
Asda Cornflakes: The Winner
Asda's Corn Flakes cost £1.15 for 500g, providing 50g more product than Kellogg's standard box. The flakes are thin yet maintain the signature crispness that cornflake enthusiasts seek. According to the tester, they have a much nicer, more natural taste compared to Aldi's offering. While 20p more expensive than Aldi's, the quality justifies the extra cost.
Aldi Cornflakes: A Close Second
Aldi's own-label cornflakes come in at just 95p, making them the cheapest option. However, the flavour and texture did not match Asda's. The flakes were less delicate with a harsher texture, lacking the subtle nutty flavour found in Asda's. Despite this, Aldi's product still offers decent value for the price.
Comparison and Verdict
Both boxes were tested dry and with milk, considering texture and flavour. The tester noted that Asda's cornflakes had a more delicate texture and a nutty flavour absent in Aldi's. While Aldi's performed adequately with milk, Asda's superior dry texture and taste gave it the edge. Asda's product provides a closer approximation to Kellogg's authentic offering for a fraction of the cost.
