Asda has announced the removal of Star Products from its Asda Rewards scheme, effective Thursday. The change means customers will no longer earn 10% of the price back into their Cashpot on these items, which could be converted into vouchers for future shopping.
The move comes ahead of a major overhaul expected to introduce the largest Rollback price reductions in years. An Asda spokesperson hinted at more changes to come, stating there is "much more to come, through Asda Rewards and across our stores."
The decision has sparked backlash from some shoppers. One customer declared, "It looks like me shopping somewhere else then," while another expressed a preference for Tesco, saying, "Oh well, back to Tesco then where (we) will get Clubcard points." However, some shoppers praised recent Rollbacks and the convenience of earning cashback on regular purchases.
This news coincides with Asda discontinuing its Aldi and Lidl price match scheme, introduced just one year ago. The scheme ensured certain products were matched with or priced lower than those at Aldi and Lidl. Customers visiting the price-match page are now redirected to a notice stating the scheme has ended, with Asda directing attention to special offers across its range.
The axing of the price match is intended to finance a substantial investment in reducing prices on a broader array of goods, as reported by Grocer Magazine.
