Argos is selling the Vortex Blade Air Cooler for £85 as the UK braces for its third heatwave of the year, with temperatures surpassing 30°C. The device uses water cooling technology to turn warm air into a fresher, more comfortable breeze, according to the product description.
The two-in-one air cooler and humidifier offers three speeds, three modes, and triple air inlets. A Vortex fan blade delivers a 6.5m/s airflow, and reusable ice packs can be added for extra chill. The automatic swing feature spreads cool air across rooms up to 25 square metres, and the unit runs at sound levels up to 63dB. It includes an eight-hour timer, remote control, and an autodry function.
Shopper Reviews and Alternatives
One reviewer described the cooler as a "saviour in this weather," while another said it was "good value for money" and effective on the lowest speed. A third user found it "really useful and silent on low settings." However, a dissatisfied customer awarded two stars, stating: "It is just a strong fan. It does not cool the room as its description states." Another reviewer compared the noise to "sleeping next to a jumbo jet."
Similar devices are available elsewhere for under £100, including the Tristar White Air Cooler (£68) from Wickes and the Swan Oatmeal 5L Nordic Air Cooler (£89) from Asda. Amazon stocks the BUENICOO Three-in-One Evaporative Air Cooler for £88.22 (down from £94).
Heatwave Impact and Consumer Demand
The heatwave has driven demand for cooling products. One shopper noted: "Bought this for working from home in this heatwave. It is not freezing cold, but it helped me work comfortably in the heat today!" Another said: "It’s definitely cooler than a normal fan, but only marginally. At night, it’s surprisingly effective."
