Lidl's own-brand ice cream has been voted the best in a public taste test, outperforming the classic Cornetto. The Which? taste test found that Lidl's Bon Gelati cones offered the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess, with a pack of six costing just 24p per cone – 9p cheaper than Cornetto.
Morrisons' ice creams took second place, while Asda came in third. Iceland had the cheapest cones at 17p each, although sizes varied. The testers found that Wall's Cornetto, a decades-old favourite, had a good texture but was too sweet and not creamy enough.
Natalie Hitchins, head of home products and services at Which?, said: “Own brand products can hold their own against more famous names. Opting for supermarket own-label groceries is a great way to save money.”
