Kate Garraway Sells North London Home for £1.5m to Tackle Care Debts

Broadcaster Kate Garraway has sold a property in North London for £1.5 million, according to reports, as she continues to address substantial debts incurred from caring for her late husband Derek Draper.

The 58-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter is said to have sold a second home, described by sources as a flat or a three-bedroom townhouse, which she had kept as a financial safety net. The property was reportedly heavily mortgaged.

Garraway had previously spoken about facing up to £800,000 in care costs for Draper, who died in January last year aged 56. She also faced debts linked to his company Astra Aspera, which closed in 2022.

A source told The Sun: “Kate takes paying off the debts very seriously and she’s always said she’d go to any lengths to achieve that. This is just part of that commitment.” The source added that she had owned the property before meeting Draper and had hoped not to sell it so soon.

In a documentary last year, Garraway revealed that the cost of care exceeded her ITV salary. She said: “Unlike the NHS, state-funded social care is only available to people with the highest needs and the lowest means.” Earlier this year on Good Morning Britain, she described having “excessive unpayable debt” due to the situation.

The sale appears to have prevented the need to sell the family home she shares with her two children. The Mirror understands the property has already been sold.
