Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been offered to Arsenal as his agency, GR Sports, pushes for a move away from St James' Park. The Gunners were informed that a deal would cost more than £85 million, with head coach Eddie Howe awaiting the outcome of a second summer transfer saga in as many years.
Transfer Fee and Agent Commission
Newcastle are holding out for £100 million for the 26-year-old Italian, though sources indicate a tipping point north of £85 million could be enough. GR Sports, Tonali's agency, will net 10 per cent of the transfer fee, according to Chronicle Live. Tottenham Hotspur, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, are in the most advanced position, with strong links between De Zerbi and Tonali's representatives.
Interest from Other Clubs
Manchester United have also shown interest in Tonali, while Manchester City have not completely ruled out a move. However, Tottenham are pushing to close a deal, which would benefit Newcastle as they can then pursue new targets. The situation mirrors Alexander Isak's protracted move to Liverpool for £125 million, though Tonali has not caused a fuss, with the drama being agent-driven.
Tonali's Stance and Potential Role
Tonali's agent, Giuseppe Riso, stated three months ago: "The goal when Sandro moved to England was to develop him into a stellar footballer — and that's exactly what's happening at Newcastle. Clubs like Manchester City or Arsenal are likely to come knocking, especially if he shines at the World Cup." Newcastle had considered offering Tonali the vice-captaincy, and he captained the Magpies in a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth last season. However, he may have played his last game for the club. Tonali previously said: "I'm happy where I am now. I've found people who care about me, and I care about them. I don't want to break any of the bonds I've built."
Improved Wages at Tottenham
If the move to Tottenham goes through, Tonali will earn an improved £275,000 per week. The transfer is expected to be resolved as the summer window progresses.
