UK Powerball Launches July 21 with Unlimited Jackpot

The UK's National Lottery is launching a new game called Powerball on Tuesday, July 21, offering players the chance to win unlimited jackpots that can roll over until someone wins. The game, which is the first new draw-based game in the National Lottery's history, will allow UK players to compete with their US counterparts in the world’s biggest jackpot game.

How Powerball Works

Players must purchase tickets by 11:55 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday for draws held in the early hours of the following morning. Tickets cost £4 per line. The jackpot starts at around £12 million, paid out over 30 years, and can roll over indefinitely, potentially reaching £1 billion or more. Matching all five numbers plus the Powerball wins the jackpot; matching five numbers wins £1 million, and smaller prizes are awarded for matching some numbers, including £8 for matching two numbers.

Industry Reaction

Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn UK, said: “We’re delighted to be joining the Powerball community. Our ambition is to bring more games, more innovation and more excitement to The UK National Lottery – and it doesn’t get more exciting than Powerball, with its transformative jackpots and life-changing contribution to good causes.”

Recent Changes to Lotto

The launch follows a major change to the bi-weekly Lotto draws, which now give players two chances to win for every £2 ticket. Two rounds of balls are drawn in each Lotto draw, which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday.

How to Play

From July 21, tickets will be available online via the National Lottery website or app, and in-store. The deadline for playing differs from Lotto and EuroMillions: tickets must be purchased by 11:55 pm to enter the following day's draw.
