Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Backed for Premier League Return with Ipswich
Solskjaer Backed for Shock Premier League Return

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been backed for a Premier League return amid links with Ipswich Town. The former Manchester United manager, 53, has not managed in the English top-flight since leaving Old Trafford in 2021. After a brief and unsuccessful stint with Turkish club Besiktas, Solskjaer is now being considered for the vacancy at newly-promoted Ipswich, following Kieran McKenna's departure.

Louis Saha Backs Solskjaer

Solskjaer's former Manchester United teammate Louis Saha has publicly supported his return to the Premier League. Speaking to Casinolyze, Saha said: "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves another chance in the Premier League. He's a top guy and I think he did a good job at Manchester United. Some periods were really good to watch, and others were difficult to manage with the personalities involved, because the foundation was unstable."

Saha added: "Now, having a new start with a new club like Ipswich, I think he will have improved over the last three years. I think that's exciting for him and for them."

Solskjaer's Premier League History

If appointed at Portman Road, Solskjaer would take his third Premier League job after spells with Cardiff City and Manchester United. He was also linked with a return to Old Trafford earlier this year following Ruben Amorim's sacking, but United opted for Michael Carrick instead.

In 2024, Solskjaer expressed his openness to a United return, stating: "If the family asks, I would say yes every day of the week. It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course."

International Ambitions

Solskjaer has also expressed interest in managing the Norwegian national team. He said: "I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Stale decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions. I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from."

Norway are currently competing in the World Cup, having beaten Iraq 4-1 in their opening game. They will face Senegal and France as they aim to reach the knockout stages in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Ipswich Town are now searching for a new manager after McKenna's exit, with Solskjaer emerging as a leading candidate alongside other names. The Tractor Boys will hope to secure a manager capable of steering them through their Premier League campaign.
