Reform UK's Kenyon: Campaign Over, Movement Continues

Reform UK candidate Rob Kenyon has spoken publicly for the first time since his defeat in the Makerfield by-election, declaring: "The campaign is over, but the movement isn't."

Kenyon's Statement

Mr Kenyon, dubbed the 'plucky plumber' by Reform, thanked all those who voted for him and the volunteers who supported his campaign. In a video statement posted to Facebook and X on Friday night, he expressed gratitude to the 15,695 voters who placed their faith in him.

"Massive thank you to everyone at Reform UK who's really supported me through this campaign. You all know who you are," he said. He also thanked volunteers, some of whom came almost daily, and his friends and family for their support.

Election Results

The by-election was billed as a straight fight between Labour's Andy Burnham and Mr Kenyon, who welcomed Nigel Farage to the constituency during the campaign. However, Mr Burnham triumphed with a massive majority, securing 54% of the total vote (24,927 votes). Mr Kenyon came second with 15,696 votes (34%), while Restore's Rebecca Shepherd placed third with 3,111 votes (6%). Mr Burnham now holds a majority of 9,231.

Movement Continues

Despite the defeat, Mr Kenyon vowed to keep fighting. "The campaign is over, but the movement isn't. We are going to keep fighting and keep this momentum up so we can take our country back," he said, ending with: "Onwards and upwards. See you soon, cheerio."
