Manchester United's transfer plans are crystallizing after completing three signings earlier this week, with Marcus Rashford's future moving closer to resolution. The club announced the midfield additions of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, along with a goalkeeper, and now aims to secure a third midfielder before the window closes.
Midfield Reinforcements Prioritized
United plan to add a third midfield signing and have scope to spend fairly big, but will not overspend. The target must be available for a fair fee, though the Reds are in a position to sign a high-quality player to strengthen Michael Carrick's options. Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha are on the radar, while Roma's Manu Kone has also been linked.
Left-Side Options and Rashford's Role
United have considered strengthening the left side, looking at left-backs and left wingers. Whether they sign a left winger could depend on Marcus Rashford's future. Rashford is set to report for pre-season after a post-World Cup break, and United are fine with his return after positive talks. Carrick, who has played with, coached, and briefly managed Rashford, suggested in April the door was open for his return. Rashford recently insisted he would not address his future until after the World Cup; with England now out of the tournament (though they have a third-place match), he is a step closer to clarity.
Potential Replacements and Striker Search
Should Rashford be offloaded, West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is being monitored. Summerville starred for the Netherlands at the World Cup and could move after West Ham's relegation. United are also considering a striker signing to support Benjamin Sesko, the only recognized striker in the squad, but would not spend big on a back-up.
Outgoing Transfers
United will make sales before the window ends. Altay Bayindir is set to leave, Joshua Zirkzee's future is uncertain, and Toby Collyer will receive clarity on his future once midfield options are settled.
