Following the success of last year’s event, Wellness in Wishaw is returning on Tuesday, August 4, from 11am to 2pm at the Houldsworth Centre. The free day of health advice and family activities is open to all residents of Wishaw and wider North Lanarkshire.
Event Details and Partners
Run by University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, the event aims to connect the community with local health, social care, and wellbeing support. More than 25 information stands participated last year, including Therapets, a smoothie bike, emergency services, and blood pressure testing. This year’s event will feature even more services and activities.
Health and social care teams, voluntary organisations, and community groups will be available in one accessible location. Visitors can speak directly with local teams, ask questions, and find support for themselves, a family member, or someone they care for.
Free Walk-In Clinics
A range of free walk-in clinics will be offered, including falls awareness, cervical screening, menopause information and support, Quit Your Way stop-smoking support, continence advice, a Stress and Distress relaxation session, support from the Addictions and Recovery Team, and sleep support for families from the Integrated Community Children’s Nursing Service.
Additionally, there will be health and community information stalls, sports, arts and crafts, face painting, Bookbug, baby massage, and Therapets.
Community Impact
Michelle McKillop, Wishaw Locality Service manager, University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: "Last year’s Wellness in Wishaw was a fantastic success and showed what can happen when local people, services and community organisations come together. This year we are building on that success to make the event even bigger and better, with more support, more activities and more opportunities for people to connect directly with local services."
She added: "It’s much more than a fun day out. It is a chance to have a friendly conversation, ask questions and get practical advice that could make a real difference to a person’s health, wellbeing or family life. The clinics are a chance to get trusted advice in a relaxed setting and connect with services that can help. Getting support early can prevent a smaller concern from becoming a bigger problem and help people feel more confident about looking after their health and wellbeing. We want to bring support closer to people and make it easier to get the right help at the right time. There is no need to book, and everything is free, so please come along and be part of it."
Partnership and Future
The event has been developed through partnership working involving the Wishaw Health Improvement Team, health and social care services, voluntary organisations, and community partners.
