Richard Olise, the 21-year-old brother of Bayern Munich and France star Michael Olise, has been released by Chelsea, leaving him without a club. The defender joined the Blues' academy at Under-9 level and progressed through the youth ranks, even earning a place in Chelsea's squad for their Conference League trip to Astana during the 2024/25 campaign.
Brothers' Paths Diverge
Michael Olise, 24, also spent time at Chelsea between 2009 and 2016 before moving to Manchester City and later Crystal Palace. He joined Bayern Munich in 2024 and has since established himself as one of the world's finest players, racking up 42 goals and 54 assists in 107 appearances for the German giants. At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Michael has provided five assists for France as they prepare to face Morocco in the quarter-finals on July 9.
Michael's Advice for Richard
With Richard now a free agent, Michael offered advice on overcoming setbacks. "We never talk about football to be honest," Michael told German X account MiaSanMIia. "We are both in it so much. We talk about life. When you have a setback, take it as a lesson. Use it as time to grow. Someone always has something worse than what you are experiencing. There is no time to complain. Digest what happened, then move on."
Transfer Speculation Surrounding Michael
Michael's performances have attracted interest from Real Madrid, with club president Florentino Perez reportedly planning a £130 million move. However, Real Madrid issued a statement denying any approach. "In response to reports ... regarding an alleged interest from our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid CF wishes to state that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned player, his representatives, or anyone in his entourage," the club said. Olise remains under contract with Bayern until 2029, and chief executive Max Eberl has ruled out a sale.
