Four England players missed training on Wednesday as Thomas Tuchel's side prepare for their World Cup quarter-final against Norway on Saturday in Miami.
Jordan Henderson undergoes arm surgery
Jordan Henderson was absent from the session at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City after undergoing surgery on his arm. The midfielder suffered a freak injury during celebrations following England's 3-2 win over Mexico at Estadio Azteca. He is not expected to play any further part in the tournament but will remain with the group.
“Surgery done! Let’s get ready for the big one Saturday,” Henderson wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. Especially the three surgeons who carried out the operation: Dr Kenneth P Unruh, Dr Mark J Winston and Dr Kirk McCullough.”
Reece James, Marc Guehi and Declan Rice also miss training
Reece James, Marc Guehi, and vice captain Declan Rice also missed the session, instead following individualised programmes. James is hoping to return for the quarter-final after missing England's matches against Panama, the DR Congo, and Mexico with a hamstring injury. There is no immediate concern over Rice or Guehi, and it is too early to determine if they are doubts for the Norway match.
In total, 22 of the 26 members of Tuchel's squad trained on Wednesday.
