Aldi has confirmed the creation of 450 new jobs across its UK stores, offering a minimum wage of £13.50 per hour. The discount supermarket, which was named the cheapest supermarket in June 2026, beating competitors such as Lidl, Morrisons, and Asda, is hiring entry-level store assistants nationwide.
New Roles and Pay Details
The vacancies are described as a first step into a career with the UK’s highest-paying supermarket. Successful applicants will receive market-leading pay, with store assistants earning £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 within the M25, regardless of age. After a period of service, wages rise to £14.47 and £15.20, respectively.
Aldi remains the only major supermarket to offer paid breaks to all colleagues, a benefit worth approximately £1,500 per year to the average store colleague. No formal qualifications are required for the roles; the company seeks friendly, positive candidates who are comfortable with numbers.
Expansion Plans
The job creation is part of Aldi’s continued expansion across Britain. The retailer plans to open around 40 new stores during 2026 as part of a £370 million investment programme. This growth aims to strengthen its presence in the UK grocery market.
