The iconic London Trocadero building, a beloved destination for 1990s kids, is set to become a massive JD Wetherspoon pub. Located at 30 Shaftesbury Avenue, the venue was once home to SegaWorld (later Funland), a seven-floor indoor amusement park featuring a drop ride and arcade machines. After closing in 2011, the building lay abandoned for years. In 2025, the Zedwell Piccadilly pod hotel opened in part of the building.
New Wetherspoons Pub: Piccadilly Hall
Plans have been announced to transform a section of the Trocadero into a giant Wetherspoon branch, named Piccadilly Hall. The name references a historic hall that gave Piccadilly Circus its name in the 17th century. The pub will span over 3,600 square feet with 280 covers, opening daily from 7am to midnight. It will serve breakfast and all-day food and drink, targeting theatregoers, tourists, and locals.
Expansion and Other Openings
Earlier this year, Wetherspoon opened its first overseas branch at Alicante-Elche Airport in Spain. The chain also expanded into Haven holiday parks with four new pubs. Upcoming UK openings include The Sir Ronald Wates in Guildford and The William Chambers in Edinburgh.
Founder Tim Martin expressed delight at opening in Theatreland, stating: 'The West End is one of the world’s great hospitality destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year, and we believe this site is exceptionally well suited to the Wetherspoon model.'
