Nicola Sturgeon has relocated to London following the fallout from her estranged husband's conviction for embezzlement. The former Scottish First Minister is renting a luxury property in the capital as she pursues a career in the literary industry, according to reports.
Sturgeon hinted at the move while promoting her memoir last year, stating she felt she could not 'breathe freely' at home. The move comes as she defends her record after her ex-husband, former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, admitted embezzling more than £400,000 from the party between 2010 and 2022.
In an interview on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, Sturgeon said she feels like she is 'serving a sentence for a crime I did not commit'. She added: 'I'm not going to apologise for somebody else's crimes.' Sturgeon previously stated she had been 'completely cleared and exonerated' by police and that she had been lied to by Murrell.
Murrell pleaded guilty this week to embezzling funds used to purchase a motorhome, cars, kitchen gadgets, watches, pens, and other items. He is set to be sentenced in June, the same month the SNP faces two by-election contests. The party has faced calls for an independent inquiry into its finances.
