Spirit Airlines has ceased all operations immediately after failing to secure a $500 million (£368 million) bailout from the Trump administration. The budget carrier, which had been in business for 34 years, announced its closure on Saturday, 2 May.
Impact on Passengers
The shutdown has left passengers scrambling to rebook flights, with customer service no longer available. Spirit had 4,119 domestic flights scheduled between 1 May and 15 May, affecting 809,638 seats.
Pilot's Emotional Sign-Off
Audio shared by ATC.com captured a pilot's emotional sign-off, expressing disbelief at the airline's closure. The pilot stated, "It's hard to believe this is it," as the final flight landed.
The airline's failure to secure government support marks the end of a low-cost carrier that served millions of passengers across the United States.
