The National Lottery is urging players to check their accounts, as more than 1.5 million people have unclaimed prizes totalling approximately £7.5 million. Individual Lotto prizes range up to £500, the maximum amount that can be paid directly into an online account without requiring a phone call to claim winnings.
Regional Breakdown of Unclaimed Winnings
London has the highest concentration of winners missing out, with over 200,000 players in the capital holding unclaimed winnings. The southeast and east of England have the second highest number, with around 190,000 players yet to redeem their money, according to The Sun.
Andy Carter, senior winner’s adviser at Allwyn, said: "Come on, you’ve played a game, become a winner and yet not enjoyed your win. It’s time to log on and check – it could be you! Whether it’s a few pounds or something much larger, it’s money that could be spent on a treat, saved for something special or even used to play again."
New Lotto Format Doubles Millionaire Chances
The Lottery recently introduced a new two-round format, giving players more chances to win. At the twice-weekly Lotto draws, held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8pm, two sets of six main numbers and a Bonus Ball are drawn using two separate machines. This means players can win in one round or both from a single Lotto line, and it is expected to create double the number of millionaires.
Carter added: "With Lotto making double the number of millionaires, this win in your account could turn into a chance to win a million in just a couple of clicks."
Upcoming Jackpot
This Saturday, the Lotto jackpot stands at £9.5 million. Players are encouraged to log into their accounts and check for any unclaimed prizes, which could fund a holiday, shopping trip, or home repairs.
