Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is poised to make his return to training on Wednesday and is expected to be available for selection against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend, according to sources close to the club.
Injury Recovery and Speculation
The 25-year-old has been sidelined for the past fortnight due to a hip issue, which caused him to miss defeats against Bournemouth and Arsenal. His absence, amid ongoing transfer speculation, led to questions about the legitimacy of his injury. However, multiple sources have confirmed that a scan two weeks ago revealed a genuine problem.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe strongly defended Gordon's commitment on Friday, stating: 'Anthony Gordon is injured, 100 per cent. So it's a non-question.'
Boost for Newcastle and England
Gordon's return is a significant boost for Howe, whose team has lost four consecutive Premier League matches and currently sits 14th in the table. It also comes as welcome news for England manager Thomas Tuchel, who is likely to start Gordon on the left of a front three at this summer's World Cup.
Future Uncertainty
Despite his impending return, Gordon's long-term future at St James' Park remains uncertain. Bayern Munich and other clubs have expressed strong interest, though Gordon has not yet communicated any desire to leave. Newcastle has set an asking price of around £80 million for the winger, who has four years remaining on his contract, which could prove a stumbling block for potential buyers.
