Emily Atack: From Rivals Stardom to Strictly Host Rumours and Trolling Battle

Emily Atack is back on screens for season two of Disney+ drama Rivals, reprising her role as Sarah Stratton. The 36-year-old actress and comedian, best known for The Inbetweeners, has also appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, Dancing on Ice, and had her own comedy series, The Emily Atack Show.

Rumours are swirling that Atack could be the next host of Strictly Come Dancing, taking over from Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly. A source told Closer in January: “She’s really happy and confident… Strictly would be her dream job – it is her favourite TV show.” Atack has not confirmed the role, and the BBC has yet to announce new hosts for the autumn series.

Atack has never danced on Strictly herself, telling the Radio Times: “I don't think anybody needs to be subjected to watching my dance moves right now. We've all been through enough.”

Off-screen, Atack has been open about her ordeal with online trolls. She received hundreds of abusive messages and went to the police. She fronted the BBC documentary Emily Atack: Asking For It?, exploring online sexual harassment and taking the debate to Parliament in 2022 to make cyber-flashing illegal.

Speaking on This Morning in 2023, she described how one troll told her she came across as “easy access, an easy target”. She said: “It shows you can’t be a sexually liberated woman… without people thinking that you’re asking for negative attention.”
