Three people have died following a gas explosion that sparked a major fire at a Dallas apartment complex on Thursday. The victims, two adult women and a child, were found in the rubble, according to Dallas Fire and Rescue. Four others were hospitalised with injuries.
Nearly 100 firefighters battled the blaze, which left the building collapsed and black smoke billowing into the sky. Fire crews were seen hosing down debris and searching through wreckage for possible survivors. A drone was deployed to survey the area for victims.
Assistant Fire Chief James Russ confirmed that a natural gas explosion caused the fire. He stated that the fire was contained but searches were ongoing, and the number of fatalities was not yet known.
Witness Julie Jensen, who lives nearby, described hearing a loud explosion that left her ears ringing. Another resident, Mr Terrance, said he lost his pets in the fire. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson expressed his condolences and said he was monitoring the situation.
