Doritos Cool Original, priced at £2.50, was used as the benchmark. The tester praised its balanced sour cream flavor, crisp crunch, and moreish quality, scoring it 8/10. They noted that while Chilli Heatwave is their personal favorite, Cool Original remains a solid choice.
Aldi's close contender
Aldi's Delta Cool Tortilla Chips, at 89p, were visually similar to Doritos and offered a robust flavor with garlic, cheese, and tomato notes. However, they lacked the tangy kick of Doritos and left sticky residue, scoring 8/10. The tester acknowledged the significant cost saving but noted the missing zest.
Tesco and Sainsbury's fall short
Tesco's Cool Tortilla Chips (89p) had an odd, acidic flavor with creamy tomato, garlic, and pepper notes, scoring 4/10. Sainsbury's version, with a curved edge and more yellow color, tasted bland and required additional toppings, scoring 5/10. Both were deemed inferior to Doritos.
M&S disappoints
