Tesco Urgently Recalls Pâté Range Over Incorrect Dates and Safety Risk
Tesco Recalls Pâté Over Incorrect Use-By Dates

Supermarket giant Tesco has issued an urgent recall for a selection of its own-brand pâté products after they were found to carry incorrect use-by dates, presenting a potential safety hazard to consumers.

Which Products Are Affected?

The recall involves three specific items from the Tesco pâté range, all weighing 170g and incorrectly labelled with a use-by date of 5 January. The products in question are:

  • Tesco Coarse Farmhouse Pâté
  • Tesco Coarse Ardennes Pâté
  • Tesco Smooth Chicken Liver Pâté

The error means the products may pose a microbiological risk, rendering them potentially unsafe for consumption, according to both the retailer and the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

What Should Customers Do?

The FSA has issued a formal 'do not eat' notice for the affected items. Tesco is displaying point-of-sale notices in all stores that sold the products to alert shoppers.

Customers who have purchased any of the listed pâtés are instructed not to consume them. Instead, they should return the products to any Tesco store, where they will receive a full refund. A receipt is not required for the return.

Official Statements and Further Action

In its official statement, the Food Standards Agency said: "Tesco is recalling various Tesco Pates as they have been labelled with an incorrect use by date printed on the pack. The products may pose a microbiological risk, making them unsafe to eat."

The supermarket has advised concerned customers to visit the contact page on the Tesco website for more information. This swift action follows standard food safety protocols to manage the risk and protect public health.
