Sky Animation Channel Closes, Merges Into Family Lineup

Sky TV has confirmed a significant change to its channel lineup, with the closure of Sky Cinema Animation today, April 30. The telecoms and television provider is streamlining its Cinema services by merging two channels into one, aiming to simplify the viewing experience for subscribers.

What Has Changed?

Sky Cinema Animation, previously available on channel 312, has now been shut down and its content integrated into Sky Cinema Family, which broadcasts on channel 304. While this reduces the total number of Cinema channels, Sky assures customers that no content has been removed. All family-friendly films previously shown on the Animation channel will continue to be accessible via the Family channel.

Popular titles such as Shrek, The Secret Life of Pets, Smurfs, How to Train Your Dragon, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Wicked will remain available, now consolidated under one roof.

Temporary Returns During School Holidays

Despite the closure, Sky Cinema Animation is not gone for good. According to Sky, the channel will make temporary comebacks during school holidays. It will return from July 24 to August 30, October 23 to November 1, and December 1 to January 5. This means families can still enjoy dedicated animation programming during key break periods.

Sky's decision reflects a broader trend in the TV industry toward consolidating content to reduce clutter and improve user experience. Subscribers will notice the change on their electronic programme guide from today.
