Motability Drive Smart Users Urged to Redeem Rewards by Friday Deadline
Motability Drive Smart: Redeem Rewards by Friday

Motability users who have earned rewards through the now-paused Drive Smart scheme have until Friday, May 22, to redeem them. The scheme, which involved installing monitoring devices in certain vehicles to encourage good driving habits, was implemented for all new drivers just a month ago but has been paused due to issues with the Drive Smart app.

Good Drivers Must Act Quickly

The Drive Smart system generated weekly ratings for drivers—green, amber, or red—based on factors such as speed, cornering, braking, and acceleration, with longer journeys given more weight. Drivers who consistently received green ratings could earn up to £160 per year in rewards redeemable at brands like Asda, M&S, and Uber Eats. With the scheme paused, Motability has urged these drivers to check the Drive Smart app and spend their rewards before May 22.

Option to Keep the Device

Motability will begin deactivating Drive Smart devices from May 22. However, drivers who value the tracking and monitoring features—such as those who find reassurance for family members—can opt to keep their devices by contacting Motability before May 21. The organisation stated: “Some customers have told us they value Drive Smart and want to keep using it. If you’d like to keep using Drive Smart, you can do. You’ll need to let us know by 21 May 2026. You can do this by filling out the form in your email.”

Future of the Scheme

While the scheme is paused, Motability will work with users to understand their needs and improve the experience. The organisation plans to invite former users to join a research group in the Headlight Community to gather feedback. Motability added: “We’ll only bring Drive Smart back when we’re confident the experience better meets your needs. When it does return, we’ll give you plenty of notice if it will still apply to your lease.” The scheme was originally intended to reduce accidents and lower insurance costs, which Motability described as “one of the biggest costs in every lease.”
