Martin Lewis Alert: Sky Mobile's £18 Hike & Your 30-Day Penalty-Free Exit
Martin Lewis: Sky Mobile's £18 price rise & 30-day exit right

Consumer champion Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to millions of Sky Mobile customers, highlighting a crucial 30-day window to escape a forthcoming price increase without facing penalties.

The Details of Sky Mobile's Price Increase

Appearing on ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show on January 6, the Money Saving Expert founder detailed the network's first mid-contract price rise in over seven years. The change takes effect on 14 February 2026.

The hike will see the majority of affected customers' bills increase by £1.50 per month, which totals an extra £18 over a year. Sky has confirmed that around 8% of plans will rise by £1 monthly (£12 annually), while approximately 1.9% will see a steeper £3 per month increase (£36 a year).

Notifications began landing with customers from Tuesday, 6 January. Sky attributes the increase to higher wholesale network costs, stating it allows continued investment in service and network quality.

Your Critical 30-Day 'Get Out' Clause

Martin Lewis emphasised the most vital piece of information for those in contract. "You have a right to leave your contract within 30 days of receiving the notification," he stated. He specifically warned customers not to confuse this with the date the price actually rises in February.

"It's 30 days of you receiving notification, not of the price going up – so be on watch for that," he advised, noting this nuance often causes people to miss the deadline.

His direct advice is for every notified customer to immediately shop around. "Everyone who gets a notification should then be checking 'can I get a cheaper deal?' and is it worth leaving? If it is, get on with it, and even if you've a year left on your contract, you've a month to ditch and switch with no penalty, no consequences."

Who is Affected and What Are Your Options?

This change impacts millions of existing Sky Mobile customers, both in and out of contract. However, you will not be affected if:

  • You joined, upgraded, or changed your plan on or after 6 November 2025.
  • You are on a social tariff (prices remain frozen).
  • You are on certain unspecified data tariffs.

For those wishing to stay with Sky, Lewis reiterated that negotiation is a powerful tool. He recommends calling Sky's retention or disconnections department, armed with offers from rival providers, to try and secure a better deal.

He also pointed out that Sky's TV and broadband services typically see annual price rises, encouraging customers to check if they are out of contract on those services too, as that is an ideal time to renegotiate or switch.

With the clock ticking from the moment you open your notification, the message from Martin Lewis is clear: act swiftly, compare deals, and use your rights to avoid paying more than you need to.
