Citric Acid Spray Removes Brown Limescale In 15 Minutes

A homeowner in a hard water area has discovered a natural cleaning solution that removes stubborn brown limescale from taps in just 15 minutes. After struggling with a thick layer of discoloured limescale around the base of a tap, they turned to citric acid as a powerful alternative to vinegar.

The cleaning enthusiast created a DIY spray using 500ml of hot water and two tablespoons of citric acid. After allowing the water to cool for ten minutes, they stirred in the citric acid until fully dissolved, then transferred the mixture to a spray bottle. The solution is said to remain effective for up to eight weeks.

To tackle the limescale, the solution was generously sprayed onto the affected area and left to sit for 15 minutes. After wiping with a microfibre cloth, the brown limescale lifted away in fragments, leaving the tap base clean. The tap itself was also sprayed and wiped, resulting in a gleaming finish.

The user praised citric acid for being odour-free, unlike white vinegar, and recommended it as an affordable, natural alternative to chemical descaling products. They advised drying the tap thoroughly with a separate cloth to prevent marks from returning.
