15 Telltale Signs Someone Has Secretly Won the Lottery, Quiz Reveals
You have just secured a fortune that could transform your life completely – but how would you manage it? A new quiz has been launched to help you discover whether you are a Big Dream Spender or a Quiet Life Upgrader when it comes to handling newfound wealth.
Research Insights on Lottery Winners
The quiz follows research involving 2,000 adults, which revealed that nearly half would keep a major lottery windfall secret. Participants expressed concerns about being pestered for loans and attracting unwanted media attention.
However, 63% of respondents acknowledged there would be noticeable signs of such a win. These include carrying out home improvements more frequently (34%), splashing out on more lavish birthday gifts (32%), and upgrading to premium economy or even first-class travel (22%).
Only 35% said they would be happy to reveal their jackpot success, while 74% indicated they would share the winnings with friends and family – though not everyone would disclose the exact amounts.
Charitable Intentions and Financial Prudence
The research, commissioned by Lottoland, which offers entry to 30 global lotteries, also found that three in 10 adults regularly participate in a lottery. Additionally, 19% frequently discuss their potential winnings and plans with family, friends, and colleagues.
A generous four in ten respondents said they would donate a large proportion of the jackpot to charity, vowing to give an average of £1.46 million to good causes if they scooped a whopping £10 million.
Meanwhile, nearly all respondents (89%) believe they would be sensible with their winnings. The majority stated they would avoid splurging it all at once, while others would add the money to an emergency savings fund or invest it in property.
Expert Commentary on Winner Behaviours
A spokesperson from Lottoland commented: "There are two types of winners in the world – the ones that reveal all and the ones that keep it well under wraps. Respondents were pretty much divided as to whether they thought they'd divulge the details or not. Some had a few understandable concerns, but a good proportion admit there'd be some noticeable signs of their success."
The spokesperson added: "It's fantastic to see how big-hearted the respondents were about charity donations if they hit the jackpot. People think they'd wait a bit before telling others, and a relatively small percentage would get on the phone right away. The big question is... who would you tell if it were you?"
