Halifax customers are being urged to accept an invitation to move to the Lloyds app before the 173-year-old brand is fully replaced by Lloyds Banking Group. The switchover, announced on July 1, 2026, will see the Halifax name phased out, but account numbers, sort codes, and other banking details will remain the same.
What customers need to do
In a social media post, Halifax stated: "The Halifax brand is changing to Lloyds. Your account details will stay the same. There's no change to your account features and benefits today, but over time, the brand of your Halifax accounts will change to Lloyds." Customers using the Halifax app and online banking will receive an invitation to move to Lloyds. The bank assured that no new passwords or memorable details are needed, and the process is designed to be simple.
Reactions to the rebrand
The move has caused concern among some customers due to Halifax's long history and association with the Yorkshire town. Scott Patient, former deputy leader of Calderdale Council, expressed disappointment: "I've no idea why they've done it. I think it might be more damaging to them than they realise. It's a shame, they've just invested a lot of money into their headquarters, they're clearly investing in Halifax, but I feel with one hand they giveth and with the other hand they taketh away."
Lloyds Banking Group's chief executive of consumer relationships, Jas Singh, reassured customers: "As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today - the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches - even the same sort code and account number." No job cuts have been announced in relation to the decision.
