Bonnie Tyler's Chaotic Buzzcocks Episode Remembered

Bonnie Tyler's Iconic TV Moment

Bonnie Tyler's death at the age of 75 has prompted a flood of tributes, but many fans are also revisiting her legendary 2007 appearance on the BBC show Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The episode, which featured Tyler appearing visibly intoxicated, has become a viral highlight over the years.

The Chaotic Start

Things got off to a smashing start when Tyler began belting her 1983 mega-hit 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' over host Simon Amstell's opening monologue, which had promised an end to drunken celebrity appearances. The Welsh pop star, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, later confirmed she had fortified herself with a glass of red wine before the taping.

Memorable Moments

During the episode, Tyler sat next to comedian Bill Bailey and, when the panel discussed past drug use, she declared: 'No drugs. Red, red wine. I love my red wine.' Amstell asked if she had consumed any that night, and Tyler claimed it was only one glass, adding it's 'good for your heart.' She continued with slightly slurred speech, an admission that she used to eat sand as a child, and a joke that made no sense.

Fan Reactions

A well-watched highlight reel on YouTube shows Amstell quipping, 'Should we pump your stomach?' Despite the wine, Tyler's powerhouse vocals remained intact each time she launched into 'Total Eclipse of the Heart.' Fans commented on the clip: 'Rest in peace Bonnie! I'll always remember this episode. Bonnie was hilarious!' wrote Gaz. '@artbabe5165 added: 'Bonnie Tyler can hold a tune better than these pop stars nowadays sober.' Ben Padmore commented: 'I come back to this vid every now and again, she was hilarious and an excellent sport.'

Her Death and Legacy

Tyler's death comes months after she was placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in May. In a statement on her official website, her family said: 'Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for. We will issue a further statement shortly, but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.' Tyler was due to perform at the Sunshine Festival in Worcester this summer, along with several European dates, and was booked to perform at Cardiff's Utilita Arena on December 17.
